We Don’t Have Religions Anymore…

We moderns don’t have religions anymore.  Instead, we have lifestyles.

We don’t submit to spiritual formation anymore.  Instead, we go shopping and submit to a lifestyle brand.

People say they are spiritual, but not religious.  They probably mean they have a lifestyle and not a religion.  Nowadays, being spiritual means buying a nice hot-tub and aroma therapy candles.  That is the beginnings of a lifestyle—a lifestyle brand to buy into.  Self-actualization through shopping.  I shop therefore I am (the kind of person I am).
